Great copy can make or break your business!
I am not a writer. And the writing experience I do have has been “strictly business”—straightforward and to the point. No flowery expressions or threading a yarn to tell my story. I am not known for nailing every comma or apostrophe.
Thankfully, I have other great qualities and skills. 😆 Like vacation rental operations and finance. But communicating that knowledge that lives in my head requires the right words!
Although I write every word of content on my website, every now and again it needs that extra professional touch, to make sure my meaning speaks loud and clear.
I call it sprinkling fairy dust on my thoughts, and like magic after a few hours of help from a copywriting expert, my words now sparkle like diamonds!
Which leads me to this recommendation: if you do any writing for your business, find an excellent copywriter or editor to make sure your words don’t go to waste!
A Little Story About Storytelling
When I first started in the vacation rental biz, I was talking to a friend of mine who had just written a book about PR and worked with many Fortune 500 companies. During that conversation, she gave me some of the best advice of my career.
She asked me what my goal was, and I was honest: I had no idea. Many of her clients, she said, were aiming to be on the Oprah Winfrey show. I was not ready to take on “O.”
What I really wanted, I realized, was a roadmap… and some help navigating it. I was lost in uncertainty, lacking confidence and direction. I told her I needed help with my website content, which I knew was a foundational basis of what I was working to accomplish. Not only because blogging and creating new, engaging content is key to driving traffic, but also because I needed to find my voice in order to authentically connect with others.
I was trying to create as much content as I could as fast as I could, but I could not keep up (I blame two small kiddos, two vacation rentals, and a growing business). So I asked: How do I find a good copywriter that could help me?
“Go to Google and search for you,” she advised, and it’s advice I take with me to this day. As a 30-something woman writing about vacation rentals, I was seeking someone who fit that profile and also sounded like me.
And that’s how I found Guest Hook, a copywriting company that specializes in vacation rentals. Their co-founder, Jessica, ended up being just the 30-something travel copywriter I was looking for. To this day, many years later, Guest Hook has a great group of copywriters with different backgrounds and knowledge of vacation rentals. Their services range from property descriptions (bestseller) to email marketing (more on that below).
Guest Hook, now under the umbrella, of the Build Up Bookings brand, offers both technical expertise and truly engaging words to establish a connection with your guests!
They can also help you come up with campaigns, branding strategy, and other creative endeavors for your short-term rental business, like:
- Copy Strategy
- Blog Copy
- Website Copy
- Listing Site Copy
- Guest Nurture Copy
- Digital Assets like Freebies
I used to look at writing as a chore, but that is no longer the case. I now have a schedule and process in place that allows me to churn out a blog post in just under an hour. And I have learned how to turn each piece of content into a traffic generator! A win-win.
