How to Create a Hotel Bed

Hotels set a pretty high bar for your guests’ expectations. Get ahead of the curve by creating the perfect, hotel-style bed that maximizes guest comfort.

Watch my video to see the process in action! I’ve also written the steps below.

Step 1:  Build the Foundation

Place a feather bed on top of your mattress and cover it with a waterproof mattress pad. This creates a comfy, seamless foundation. Bonus: it also protects your mattress investment.

Step 2: Sheets

Place a white fitted sheet over the mattress and foundation. Then add a white flat sheet.  Don’t forget to tuck the white flat sheet on all sides. Think hospital corners!

Step 3: Duvet and filling

Add a white duvet cover with a nice down blanket. Feathers or a down alternative is best. For summertime bedding, we recommend a heavier cotton blanket with some weaving—it gives the nice weighted feeling without trapping too much heat.

Step 4: Fold & Tuck to Perfection

Don’t forget to fold down the top twelve to eighteen inches of the duvet and flat sheet. Tucking the duvet is optional, depending on your preference.

Step 5: Pillows

Make sure you layer your pillows as well. One layer for protection, and a second to create a seamless look and feel.  Add pillow protectors, then add a crisp, white pillowcase. Don’t forget to tuck in the ends of the pillowcase to create that seamless hotel look.

Step 6: Final Touches

Now for the fun part—your creative touches. Add a bed scarf or throw blanket to the foot of the bed and some fun throw pillows that match your decor.

Alanna at The Distinguished Guest has been an invaluable resource while setting up my first vacation rental.  I recently bought a house in Hilton Head Island and knew nothing about what it takes to be a successful vacation rental.  Alanna has always been willing to lend a helping hand and responds quickly to all of my many questions!  If you're looking to set up a new vacation rental or refresh an existing rental, I would highly recommend contacting Alanna to help out.  She provides a 5 star experience!
